Rules
Happy Fun Time RP is an English language RP server, where immersive role-playing thrives in a vibrant and inclusive community. Our ethos revolves around three core pillars: promoting creativity for serious yet enjoyable role-playing, prioritizing inclusivity where everyone is treated with respect, and fostering a strong sense of community.
Below are a collection of RP rules and guidelines which must be followed at all times whilst engaging in RP on the HFT server. If you have any questions about any of the below rules, please feel free to send in a support ticket via Discord.
- IC - in character
- OOC - out of character
- RP - roleplaying
- RDM - random deathmatch
- VDM - vehicle deathmatch
Section 1 - General
- This is an 18+ server. As such all characters must be 18 or older.
- This is an RP-first server. To ensure a high level of immersion is persistent, everyone must remain in character at all times.
- Here at HFT we encourage and support our community members who wish to stream RP content. With this in mind, everyone should ensure their RP follows all TOS rules of Twitch.
- A healthy life and gaming balance is paramount to your own personal wellbeing. We love to see people passionate about HFT and their RP but we encourage everyone to make sure their time IC isn't at the detriment of any other area(s) of your life. This is just a friendly reminder and the HFT Team will never intervene in this regard.
- Staff Decisions are Final! Any decision reached by staff will have been discussed with all of the relevant team members. It will have been carefully considered and should be considered final.
Section 2 - General
HFT prides itself on being inclusive and encouraging our community members (newbies and experienced) to collaborate and develop creative roleplay scenarios. Below are some of the rules and guidelines used to achieve this:
- We pride ourselves on being a welcoming space for beginners while maintaining a commitment to high-quality roleplay experiences. We encourage you to have a read through the guidelines on our Discord that are relevant to the characters you will play, to ensure a consistent and enjoyable RP experience for everyone involved. Our team is here to support you on your roleplaying journey. If there are any concerns about the quality of your roleplay, our dedicated HFT Team may reach out to provide guidance, directing you to our helpful RP guides. Rest assured, this is aimed at enhancing collaboration and creating fantastic roleplay opportunities, rather than critiquing your character choices.
- Any feedback is meant to be constructive, fostering a positive environment. Should you find your roleplay not meeting our standards and there is a blatant disregard for any guidance or support offered, then this may be deemed fail RP. However, we do want to stress our primary goal is to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community. Let's work together to make your experience here truly exceptional!
- Sometimes in RP you may find yourself in a situation or scenario you don't feel comfortable with. If you need to use the traffic light system you can use the /me command or use it verbally in conversation. You can find out more about the traffic light system under Server Info in the Discord.
- If you have an issue of rule-breaking that occurs during a scene you are participating in, all players are expected to finish the scene without breaking character. Once the roleplay is over, you should report these rule breaks via a support ticket. Breaking character and going OOC will not be tolerated. OOC feelings should not be projected IC in any way.
- You gotta keep 'em separated! Repeat offenses where an individual is seen to be mixing IC and OOC feelings will be considered a major rule break.
Section 3 - Characters
Great thought and attention to detail should be taken when creating your character! Below are some important considerations to make during this process:
- Only roleplay as characters that are within your real world race. Use of accent is allowed and should fall within your “casting” bracket as a player. It must not be used to undermine, offend, belittle, insult or slander people.
- Offensive or harmful stereotypes should not be portrayed in or out of character.
- Character names should air on the believable side. Humorous names are acceptable, however overtly crass, insulting names should be avoided. Forced name changes may be carried out.
- Character Creation - currently all characters should be made using the 'free mode' base when starting the process. At this current time we do not allow use of any peds.
- Returning Characters - You may have played characters in other servers that you want to bring into Happy Fun Time RP. We do not have a problem with this, however your character should come into Happy Fun Time as a blank slate e.g. no pre-existing relationships or knowledge from previous servers. Treat this as a chance to explore new opportunities with these characters. Breaching the above could be deemed metagaming and subsequently, a rulebreak.
- Inspiration is great, we all benefit from it but let your creativity shine! Any characters inspired by real world individuals or characters from popular works should be considered a unique take on them. Direct use of the names of real world figures or notable characters is forbidden.
- Variety is the spice of life! Many people choose to have multiple characters, and we have outlined some guidelines to keep in mind:
- Each character should be easily distinguishable. This could be based on their appearance, voice, different personality and goals etc.
- Characters played by the same individual should have no knowledge of each other. Any such examples will be considered metagaming. If a character requires a family member, there should be another player bringing this character to life.
- Any transfer of items or currency between your own characters is strictly forbidden. Anyone found to be doing this will be considered to be metagaming/powergaming.
Section 4 - Key Standards & Mechanics
Our aim is to create an immersive and well balanced RP community. In order to achieve this, we believe the following to be of importance:
- Yes and…: All players should approach storylines and conversations with the attitude that they will build on what is happening. Vibe and riff off of what the other player is putting out! Shutting down storylines or trying to overpower an individual's RP style with your own will be considered fail RP.
- Fail RP: FailRP can be anything regarding an extremely unrealistic situation that is used in the game to gain an advantage. This rule is meant to be used with common sense. Would your character do this in real life? Does it match with your character's storyline? Some examples are listed below but this is not an exhaustive list:
- a. Disrupting a scene that is already ongoing without being involved by a scene participant, especially in a manner that interferes with the outcome or progression of the RP
- b. Tweeting to police about crime, or selling weapons/illegal contraband over Birdy
- c. Fake hostages (using friends or approaching someone and asking them to be a hostage for a scenario) when you haven't already exhausted trying to obtain a real hostage
- Win Mentality: Having fun should be at the forefront of your RP. Do not approach situations with the intention of always winning (police chases, fights, grinding) - allow your character to experience loss and failure as this is a natural part of life.
- Metagaming: Knowledge gained OOC cannot influence your characters actions or choices. This includes using information from Discord, Twitch or other communication methods to gain an unfair advantage in-game. Remember, it's not what you know but rather what your character knows! Your character should only know what they have learned and discovered IC. You cannot have a stream open of a user who is playing on the server while you are in the server yourself. Continuous abuse of any of the above could result in temporary or permanent bans.
- Powergaming: You cannot abuse system mechanics or bugs to gain advantages IC. This includes hearing conversations and gathering intel through walls/doors. You must also consider what is happening to your character, or what they are doing, and how this would actually impact them. You should not perform actions that would be considered unrealistic and without consequences.
- Scene Invading: All community members should respect the RP of the others around them. If a scene is taking place you should not derail it through your presence. If you are asked to leave a scene through IC means, you should do so if it protects the integrity of the RP taking place.
- Fear Roleplay: Remember, you're attempting to portray a believable character which could exist in the real world. Your character must respond realistically in tense situations. This means that if you are being threatened or outnumbered, you will comply with the demands and fear for your life, as you would OOC.
- NVL (No Value for Life): You must value your life, the lives of others (where appropriate) and the NPC's at all times when IC. If you are continuously compromising the safety of your character then this could be considered a rule break. Below is a non-exhaustive list of examples of this rule break:
- a. Blatantly not fearing for your life e.g. when being taken hostage at gunpoint
- b. Committing a violent act against a group that has you outnumbered and has already shown their intent to do harm
- c. Using a communication device to call for help when you are already held against your will
- d. Fleeing when surrounded by a group that has communicated that they will do harm
- e. Jumping from a fatal height to flee
- Random Death Match (RDM): Players are not allowed to randomly attack and kill another player. There must be a believable and justifiable reason for any significant violence towards another character. The use of physical violence through RP should always be considered a last resort and the other party should be given the chance to respond. In addition, repeatedly harming locals (NPCs) will be deemed RDM.
- Vehicle Death Match (VDM): Players are not allowed to intentionally use their vehicle as a weapon to inflict harm on another character. The only case where this is acceptable is if a user attacking you is in your reasonable escape path. You cannot intentionally go out of your way to strike somebody even if they are attacking you. Excessive vehicle to vehicle ramming may be considered VDM.
- Injury RP: It is crucial to RP injuries realistically which includes seeking help from EMS. You should consider the severity of the incident and how it would realistically impact your character. For serious injuries, you should always RP the effects of this on your movements, breathing, ability to talk etc. See our Injury Guide in the Discord for further guidance.
- Gunplay: Weapons of any type, especially guns, highly restrict the RP of the others around you and should be considered a last resort or the realisation of slow burn RP. You should engage in meaningful interactions with those involved in the storyline or scene before resorting to shooting; the use of a gun should not be taken lightly.
- Pocket Wiping: When robbing a player, you should not take every item from their pockets and leave them with nothing. Only take what is needed to build on the storyline you are part of, or what your character would likely take in this situation.
- Tactical Logging: You should not disconnect from the server as a means of escaping IC consequences. If you happen to disconnect you should make best attempts to reconnect. In the event this is not possible, you MUST reach out to the others involved in the scene and aim to resume the scene at a time suitable for all involved.
- Mental Health RP: Characters can express emotions like sadness, anxiety, or stress as part of natural roleplay, but roleplaying serious mental health conditions (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder etc) is not allowed. All portrayals must be respectful, realistic, and free from offensive or exaggerated stereotypes. Roleplaying suicide, self-harm, or threats of either is strictly prohibited and will result in a permanent ban.
If you're struggling with your mental health outside of roleplay, please seek support. Helpful resources can be found here: Mind.org resources
- Addiction RP: Any form of addiction roleplay is not tolerated and will result in a permanent ban.
- Torture RP: RP that inflicts long lasting or permanent injuries requires out of character consent before taking place in character. If no consent is given, you may only injure / down the player as normal. Please remember that this is a sensitive subject and trigger warnings should be provided if you are streaming or posting clips of such RP.
- Robbery & Heists: No more than 4 individuals should be actively involved in a heist or robbery. Being actively involved in a heist or robbery would include anyone involved in the chase, however would not include being a lookout.
The following robberies require PD to be on duty, but does not require a hostage or for PD to attend before you try to escape:
- a. Warehouse robbery
- b. 24/7 Store robbery
- c. House robbery
- d. ATM robbery
A heist is considered any illegal activity which cannot proceed without PD attending. The following heists require a minimum of 1 hostage and therefore require you to wait for PD to attend:
- a. Vangelico's Jewellery Store
- b. Any of the banks
- c. Bank truck robbery
Hostages cannot be NPCs, you will need to take another player hostage, if you are unsure how to approach this in character, ask in #questions in the Discord or raise a support ticket. You should not start a heist within 30 minutes of a server restart.
- Criminal Disguises: When participating in crime, you can be identified by the police if you do not wear a face covering or mask of some kind. Characters can wear 'wigs' to change their hair. Criminals cannot be identified using their voice alone.
- Voice Changers: Whilst we do allow the use of voice changers, players must ensure that their voice communication remains clear and easy to understand.
- Corruption RP: Characters in government positions, such as PD, EMS and judges, cannot be corrupt. HFT does not currently have the required checks and balances in place to ensure corruption RP would not negatively impact the servers delicate balance and as such is not allowed. Corruption is the use of your character's position to gain a benefit or create chaos through misconduct or improper actions.
- Serial Killers: If you intend to RP a storyline as a frequent killer in the city, you must seek approval from the HFT Team and intended victims/partners. This includes killings of both player characters and non-player characters (NPCs). Serial killers are expected to be fair to all sides in roleplay and accept that serious in character punishment (up to and including execution or life sentences) may happen as a result of this roleplay. As these sorts of characters are very disruptive, they should be limited use and have a predetermined 'expiration' date.
- Supernatural RP: Characters may believe they are of a supernatural nature but ultimately they cannot possess any unrealistic qualities. RP should always reflect this and you should under no circumstances be using the /me, emotes or scenes to appear to have supernatural powers or be carrying out supernatural acts.
- GTA Driving: Citizens are expected to drive realistically at all times. During police chases, limit the amount of unrealistic maneuvers and stunts pulled. Naturally you will want to get away - but value for life must be considered.
- Props and Emotes: The use of props and emotes can be used to support and elevate the immersion of any RP taking place when used appropriately. Any use of props or emotes should be relevant to where you are located and what is happening in the scene you are participating in. It is not appropriate to use props or emotes in situations where you would not have access to them or where it does not fit the vibe of the scene.
- Green Zones: Breezy Heights Apartments, PD and EMS buildings are considered 'Green' or 'Safe' zones. This includes not only the building, but the outer areas such as car parks as well. You cannot use these to commit serious or violent crimes or to obtain hostages (excluding petty crime such as vehicle theft and graffiti).
- Bases: Prisons and Military Bases should be treated as 24/7 staffed and guarded buildings. Serious or violent crime (excluding petty crime such as vehicle theft etc) will be considered Fail RP when in the direct vicinity of the prison. Military bases should not be entered.
- Established Gangs: Established gangs require a minimum of 3 members and can have a maximum of 6 members. More information on how to get established gang status can be found in #ic-guides.
Section 5 - Criminal RP
- Sticking around after a crime: If you commit any crime relating to bigger heists e.g. warehouse, bank truck robbery, bank robbery or jewellery store robbery) you will be expected to stay online as that character for 20 minutes after any chase / police interaction has been concluded.
- “Alt” control: The 'alt' control which makes you knock over a player when you run at them should not be used as a way to escape from a chase. We are unable to disable this but this would be deemed powergaming a game mechanic.
- Chase resets: Criminals should not request resets on chases, this decision will be made by PD and will generally be for if someone has headpopped / game has crashed / glitched etc in the majority of circumstances. If a reset is given, it may not be a full reset, the chase may just be paused, for example.
- Police / EMS Baiting: You must not bait police officers or EMS staff e.g. calling / reporting them to get them to your location, only to rob them / take them hostage or driving past them repeatedly to get their attention. Goading them to get their attention and time without any intention of it creating valuable RP or character growth is considered FailRP. If you have a plan in mind and you're not sure if it might break this rule, then please raise a support ticket via Discord to discuss further.
